Celebrating diversity with new murals at Blacon Adventure Playground

Colourful murals celebrating inclusivity and diversity have taken pride of place at Blacon Adventure Playground.

Staff at the playground, which is run by Avenue Services, created the eye-catching designs to promote a message of welcome and inclusion to people of all backgrounds, regardless of race, faith, gender or sexual orientation.

Volunteers from the local community and the Public Health Team at Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) lent a helping hand painting the murals, while children using the adventure playground over the summer holidays also created their own signs which are now on display around the site.

Sandra Hewitt, Blacon Adventure Playground manager, said: “The playground is somewhere for everyone to enjoy and we wanted to promote the importance of respecting other people’s views and embracing and celebrating our differences.

“The murals look absolutely fantastic and we’d like to say a big thank you to the council staff and our volunteers from the local community for getting stuck in and helping us bring the designs to life.”

The Cheshire West and Chester Council employees participated through the council’s staff volunteering scheme, which offers staff up to two days paid leave to support projects in their local community.

Councillor Carol Gahan, who represents Blacon, commented: “We are committed to championing diversity and recognise the valuable contribution that volunteering makes to a strong and cohesive society.

“We are delighted our employees were able to contribute to this very worthwhile project and I know they found the experience highly rewarding and enjoyable.”

Blacon Adventure Playground, in Kipling Road, is used by about 5,000 people every month and also features an urban farm, environmental area and children’s garden.
