Old Blacon Library

Local residents are being given the opportunity to have their say on exciting plans to bring a new retail offering to Blacon.

Avenue Services and Cheshire West and Chester Council have agreed a proposal to sell the former Blacon Library building in Western Avenue for retail use and invest proceeds from the sale back into the community with an extension of the Activity Centre at Blacon Adventure Playground.

Residents can share their views until Sunday 28 October, with a drop-in event taking place at Blacon Parade Enterprise Centre between 2-8pm on Tuesday 23 October for residents to find out more about the plans and provide their feedback.

Paul Knight, Head of Avenue Services, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to bring new investment to Blacon and increase the range of facilities on offer to our residents.

“Significant investment is needed to repair and maintain the old library building and both Avenue Services and Cheshire West and Chester Council believe that selling the site and investing the money back into Blacon will have the greatest benefit to the local community.

“We are looking forward to hearing residents’ views on the proposals.”

As part of the consultation, Avenue Services is also engaging with residents via social media, encouraging feedback on its Facebook and Twitter pages.

Residents can also have their say on the proposals by emailing avenue.services@sanctuary-housing.co.uk with ‘Old Library Consultation’ in the subject line, calling 0300 123 1741 or writing to: Old Library Consultation, Avenue Services, Parade Enterprise Centre, 14 The Parade, Blacon, Chester, CH1 5HN.
