Helping out the gardeners of Blacon

9 August 2023

A photo showing a group of people at the Highfield Gardening Association allotment site in Blacon. Members of Avenue Services' ground maintenance team are wearing brightly coloured high visibility jackets, while gardening association members are wearing casual outdoor closing. The group is stood on a grassy area next to a large yellow skip full of the collected debris from the site. They are looking towards the camera and smiling.

After a summer of hard work in their allotment, members of Blacon-based Highfield Gardening Association got in touch to ask if we could help clear the rubbish that built up during their work.

We were happy to help the association’s volunteers and sent our Grounds Maintenance team to help out, as well as providing two skips that were quickly filled with broken slabs, wood, bricks and other waste.

Community investment is important to us, and it’s always a great experience for our staff to be able to get out into Blacon and help our residents create a sustainable community.

Now that the plot is cleared, the association plans to expand its small not for profit shop at the site and install a polytunnel to help members grow more plants and produce.

All members of the gardening association are able to purchase produce from the shop at the allotments, and it costs just £1 to join for life.
