Thousands of children enjoy successful summer programme in Blacon

Thousands of children and visitors enjoyed the successful summer programme organised by Avenue Services and its community partners in Blacon.
Every year the summer programme is supported by funding from the Department for Education’s Holiday Activities and Food Programme, which is distributed locally through community interest company Edsential. The additional funding means that the programme is able to provide 2,000 free meals to children over the school holidays.
There was a busy schedule of 40 different events to keep the children of Blacon busy this year, including crafts, sports and a late-night campfire. The bike repair shop at Blacon Adventure Playground was also up and running and repaired a total of 153 bikes.
Over the six-week period, 358 volunteer hours were carried out to deliver the summer programme experience, and the team at Blacon partnered with Rage Fitness and Blacon Butterflies WI to provide children with a fantastic programme of events.
Sandra Hewitt, Playground and Neighbourhood Manager said: “Our summer programme was once again a big success, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to all our partners and volunteers who contributed.
“This programme is so important to the children in our community and seeing them get so involved makes all the hard work worth it.”
