The long-term future of an important facility for young people in Blacon has been secured thanks to support from Chester MP Chris Matheson.

Avenue Services has agreed to purchase the Portakabin building at Cairns Crescent.

Boasting two meetings rooms, storage space and a kitchen, it is used by Blacon Youth Football Club, which has teams for boys and girls of all ages, and the Delta Centre youth club.

The youth club, which moved to the Delta Centre following the redevelopment of the Parade in Blacon, welcomes up to 60 young people aged eight to 18 three nights a week.

Chris Matheson MP said: “The facility at Cairns Crescent is well established and provides a vital service to the community.

“It is so important the young people of Blacon have somewhere to meet and spend time with their peers and I’m very pleased to have helped secure such a positive outcome for all involved.”

Paul Knight, head of Avenue Services, added: “This is a fantastic facility for young people in Blacon and we are delighted to have worked with our local MP Chris Matheson, Blacon Youth Football Club and Portakabin to secure its long-term future.”

Ben Coupar, regional manager for Portakabin, commented: “We are delighted to have been able to support Blacon youth.

“Our local team pulled together to deliver a great building for the entire community to enjoy; it’s great to see it in use, promoting activities for young people in the local area.”
